LUBBOCK, Texas – The following is a press release from the Texas South Plains Section of the American Red Cross:
Experts say we are in a busy hurricane season this summer and the American Red Cross needs volunteers to help in our community.
While North Texas is unlikely to be directly affected, it serves as an escape point for those seeking refuge from storms. Volunteers are needed to support local in-person and virtual operations. Local volunteers can help hurricane evacuees or support local emergencies like house fires or other disasters. Additional opportunities exist for those who wish to deploy in the affected areas.
“Last year we had to adapt to work during a pandemic, which helped us explore more virtual opportunities. Now, as things start to open up, we are able to offer both virtual and in-person opportunities, with flexible hours, allowing volunteers to support where they feel most comfortable. Said Kiley Murray, acting executive director of the American Red Cross serving the South Texas Plains. “In light of this, the Red Cross asks you to be ready to help your community by training now to be a Red Cross volunteer and answering the call for help when our community has the most. need you.
